28 King Street, Hunter Valley

The original property was a 3 bedroom neglected and burnt out weatherboard house in a prime location on an elevated block of land overlooking a beautiful hilly horizon. It took dedication, perseverance and passion to restore the house back to it’s original glory, maintaining the character of the house, whilst updating basic modern conveniences and rearranging the floorplan to best take advantage of the property’s aspect.

Throughout the restoration the period features were either retained or reinstated with modern conveniences added, including LED lighting throughout, air-conditioning and the addition of gas bayonet connections throughout.

The restoration of the property took 5 months and included the following:

  • Reconfiguration of the property layout to a more practical design, which included reversing the kitchen, living and bedroom areas with the large lower laundry area raised to form the new kitchen with decking area.
  • Reinstatement of the fireplaces in the front room and mid-living room to be fully functional, including chimney pots.
  • Removal of the Masonite sheeting and restoration of the original weatherboards
  • Restoration of the property’s interior, including new skirting and architraves and sanding and coating the original hardwood timber flooring.
  • Gardens, trees, shrubs and fences reinstated.
